Shahrukh Khan
Khan began his career appearing in several television serials in the late 1980s. He made his film debut in Deewana (1992). Now he is one of the most famous and successful stars of Indian cinema. He has won many best actor awards and many other awards which includes thirteen Filmfare Awards.

Dharma Productions Pvt. Limited was established by Late Shri Yash Johar in 1976.1998 saw the release of Dharma Productions 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' ('Heartbeats'), the directorial debut of Karan Johar (son of Mr. Yash Johar) that featured the most loved on-screen couple of contemporary Indian cinema, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. This massive production turned into a huge box office blockbuster and became the first Indian feature film to figure in the UK Top 10 (Empire, December 1998), featuring in sold out shows at the Odeon Marble Arch and at The Empire - Leicester Square in the West End of London. Yash Raj Productions
YRF is superheaded by Yash Raj. It has given some wonderful movies to Indian cinema for the last five decades. Yash Raj Studios started as film making company in 1970s.It is also associated with producing successful music albums and has also launched its own music company- YRF music.In 2004, Hollywood Reporter carried a survey on the “Biggest Film Distribution Houses” in the world in which Yash Raj Films was listed as 27th in the world,making it the no. 1 in distribution house in India. Some of its very successful movies are New York, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Chak De India, Kabul Express, Dhoom:2, Fanaa, Salaam Namaste, Bunty Aur Babli, Veer-Zaara etc.
Bollywood in early 2000s
This era saw popularity of Indian cinema in world. The first blockbuster of 2000 was Kaho Na Pyar Hai starring Hrithik Roshan and prduced as well as directed by his father Rakesh Roshan. There was a continuous improvement in the story line and technology used in Indian cinemas. Yash Raj Films & Dharma Productions were among the largest Production Houses of this time. The releasing of Indian cinemas in overseas cinemas and the opening of multiplexes in cities led to a huge success of Bollywood movies. It delivered a new generation of popular actors like Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherji, Preity Zinta etc. Some of the very big hits of this time were Kaho Na Pyar Hai, Lagaan, Koi Mil Gaya, Kal Ho Na Ho, Veer- Zaara, Devdas etc.
Recent Bollywood
The most recent era of bollywood that is era from 1990s saw a new uprising in Indian Cinema. There were many successful family dramas which included Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994) and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). It saw making stars of new generation of actors such as Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Kajol, Juhi Chawla etc. Independent comedy movies were also successful with actors like Akshay Kumar, Govinda. Action movies were also gaining popularity in Indian cinema during this time.
Modern Bollywood
Late 1960s saw a new era of movies. Romantic and action movies introduced for the first time some very great actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore, Hema Malini etc. 1970s saw the rise of commercial cinema with Amitabh Bachcha's Sholay and Deewar. The most internationally-acclaimed Hindi film of the 1980s was Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay! , which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
What is Bollywood?
Bollywood is the term used for Indian Film Industry based in Mumbai. Its only a part of Indian cinema. There are other Indian Film Industries too. It is the largest film producer in the world with its largest population from all across the world. Raja Harishchandra was the first cinema made in India in 1913 by Dadasaheb Phalke. Golden Age of Indian cinema is referred to as period from 1940s to 1960s. The most famous actors during this time included Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar, Nargis, Dilip Dutt, Meena Kumari etc. The successful movie of this period included Pyaasa, Shree 420, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Mughal-e-Azam etc.
